Duncan Jubb

As a 33 year old Scot, Duncan had spent the last 10 years in a glamorous seafaring role. He was a qualified Yachtmaster and there weren't many exotic sandy beaches he had not seen either from his deck chair or from the deck of a yacht! For many of us, Duncan's life represented the ultimate idyllic lifestyle of sun, sand and sea.

For Duncan though, it was all beginning to get a bit ‘samey' and he was starting to realise that after all this time, every beach looked pretty much the same; he knew that the time had come to settle down. He had a new fiancée and they both wanted children.

Working away from home for weeks and sometimes months at a time were not the ingredients for a good family life so Duncan decided that something had to change.

During his time afloat Duncan had become interested in the on-board electrics of many of the yachts he had skippered and this gave him the idea of becoming a qualified Electrician. He wanted a trade that would give him a decent income and job security and after much research - most of which he delegated to his fiancée! - he was satisfied that training as an electrician would soon give him everything he needed.

Duncan and his fiancée spotted several adverts in their local paper and began the process of choosing a course. ‘We looked at five or six electrician training courses in some detail and spoke to the various companies' said Duncan,. My fiancée who is a practising solicitor, really did most of the hard work and we eventually chose the electrician course offered by Trade Qualified. We thought it was the most complete electrical training package of them all because not only did their electrician course offer the best range of industry electrical qualifications, it included everything else too such as a really good toolkit and reference books. I could keep my job and rush through the course at breakneck speed or take my time; it was just perfect for my needs.'

Duncan enrolled on the Electrician training course and soon received his course materials. He hadn't worried about being able to cope with the home study part of the course because he had always been good at maths. He had no need to worry anyway because he quickly discovered that what little maths there was amounted to simple addition and multiplication. He just sailed through it (ouch!). ‘There was great support for my home study by telephone and email and everything was so easy', said Duncan.

He loved his time in the electrician training centre and said ‘Everyone there had paid for their training and although it was great fun we knew we were there to learn. The tutors were really helpful and having worked as electricians themselves this made it easy for them to offer really good advice as well as practical training. I couldn't have asked for more'.

Now happily married and with a bouncing baby girl Duncan said enthusiastically, ‘Doing this electrician course really has changed my life. I'm now confident about the future and that I can support my family as I move into the next phase of my life. I'm a very happy guy.'

‘I would definitely recommend this electrician course to anyone, including my best friends. I can't give a better endorsement than that!'
