Why choose us for your Plumbing Training Course?
|
| The City & Guilds 6032 despite its long title is in layman's terms Bathroom Design and Installation. Many self-employed plumbers specialise in bathroom and kitchen renovation work and therefore if called upon, being able to demonstrate recognised relevant City & Guilds qualifications will stand them in good stead. Kitchen and Bathroom renovation is expected to become an increasingly important part of a plumbers income as in the current economy householders opt to remodernise instead of moving house. |

Water Supply Regulations 1999
When this plumbing qualification is achieved you are able to register with your local Water Authority as an approved contractor.
Design Installation and Maintenance of Power and Gravity Fed Shower Systems
Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems
With the advent of modern building techniques that maximise living space coupled with the drive towards energy-efficiency the Unvented Hot Water Storage System was developed. With this modern system, you no longer need a tank in your loft; you can heat your water as and when you need it simply by turning on the tap.
This sealed and pressurised system is now installed in almost all new-build properties and therefore is an increasingly more important part of a plumber's day-to-day work.
There is nothing preventing you from carrying out work on this type of system. However, without being formally assessed and certified as competent you will need to call in your local Building Control Officer to approve your work. This adds delay and cost to your job.
| This short but useful plumbing course will enable you to confirm your competence in the design, installation and maintenance of Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems. Following successful training and assessment in Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems, you will no longer need to contact your local Building Control Officer to have your work approved. You will be recognised as being competent and can therefore self-certify your own work. |

Domestic Electrical Installer Defined Scope Part P Certificate
There are two levels of part P registration. The 'Full Scope' certificate is the one normally held by professional electricians.
The level we recommend for plumbers is the ‘Defined Scope' certification. This enables them to carry out all the domestic electrical work they would normally encounter e.g. the installation and maintenance of power showers, ceiling spot-lighting, electric cookers and boilers (the latter being subject to holding the appropriate CORGI registration) in fact just about everything with the exception of full house wiring or re-wiring and the preparation of wiring design plans. Other work may include swimming pools, hot air saunas, electric floor or ceiling heating systems, garden lighting or power installations, non pre-assembled extra low-voltage lighting installations and many other areas.
Many of the aforementioned trades could become part of your future client base.
Whilst on your course everything will be clearly explained to you together with your obligations to register with one of the government appointed certification bodies if you intend to be self-employed.

Plumbing Course - Structure
Students progress through the plumbing course with an alternating mix of home study (distance learning) and practical work in Centre. In total there are five home study modules each of which is followed by a week in Centre for practical training and formal examinations. The total time in Centre will be five weeks and one day. The additional day is required to complete the Part P practical assessment and may be booked whilst in Centre during the Part P practical week.
Following initial enrolment and receipt of their plumbing course materials the student will begin by working through the first plumbing course home study module. The completed Stage Assessment (SA) test papers contained within the study module are sent by the student either by post or e-mail, to their tutor for marking. The SA papers are used by tutors to evaluate student progress and their readiness to move to the next week of practical plumbing training. |

When all Stage Assessment (SA) papers in the module have been returned to the student and they have been passed, the student is ready to attend their chosen week in the Plumbing Traing Centre.
If the SA papers are not passed, at no additional cost they may be repeated and sent for marking until they are passed.
Plumbing Course - Home study
The plumbing course home study programme is comprised of 5 separate tutor supported home study modules. The first four plumbing course study modules each require approximately 60 hours of study and the final module relating to the Domestic Electrical Installer Defined Scope Part P Certificate will require approximately 80 hours of study making a total of 320 hours.
The plumbing home study programme is a vital part of the plumbing course designed to help students gain a thorough understanding of the theoretical principles involved. It provides invaluable preparation for the practical work in the Plumbing Training Centre.
Plumbing Course - Reference and course material
Current reference books and notes required for completion of the plumbing course are included in the fee and will be provided to you on enrolment and as you progress through your plumbing course. Please note however that if any of the published reference material is updated whilst you are on the plumbing course it is your responsibility to purchase the updated material and add it to your personal study material library.
Plumbing Course - Practical work in Centre
The plumbing home study programme is complemented by five (Mon-Fri) weeks of practical work plus one day in the Plumbing Training Centre. Each available week may be selected around the student's commitments. To ensure that our students get the maximum benefit from their time in the Plumbing Training Centre, the weeks may only be attended following successful completion of the home study module that prepares them for their next week in the Centre. This preparation includes passing the Stage Assessment (SA's) papers within that module.

When you have completed week four in the Plumbing Training Centre and having gainedyour new plumbing qualifications you can start working as a professional plumber. However, you should not do any notifiable electrical work until you haveachieved your Defined Scope Part P Domestic Installers qualification.
If you intend to work self-employed you will need to register with one of the registration bodies approved by the government. Your registration options will be fully explained to you during your course.
