katieerrington_thKatie was working as a Nurse in a Bradford hospital. It was the career she had always wanted but now that she was actually doing it she realised that it was not for her.

She needed something more creative and challenging. Quite by accident she found what she wanted. She was discussing her job with one of her friend’s brothers who just happened to be an Electrician.

He described to her a life of different sites, doing different jobs and meeting different people all over the country.

roymannock_thRoy was a 25year old from Oxfordshire working in a job producing extruded metal for industrial use.

Although he didn't actually hate his job he had always wanted to be a Plumber but thought little of investing in his future and like many young men he bought a car!

Before he knew it he was locked in to needing an income to keep his life together and somehow his ambition seemed to fade into the background.

Paul was working in the south of England with a manufacturing company who turned out Conservatory blinds every day of the week.

The only thing that changed was that some were different colours and some were different sizes. When asked why he had wanted to change his job, his reply wasn't too much of a surprise! He said that it was ‘tedious, boring and repetitive'.

What's more it was the ‘same four walls every day' and he ‘didn't earn enough money'. If ever there was a candidate for a career change it was Paul.

As a 33 year old Scot, Duncan had spent the last 10 years in a glamorous seafaring role.

He was a qualified Yachtmaster and there weren't many exotic sandy beaches he had not seen either from his deck chair or from the deck of a yacht! For many of us, Duncan's life represented the ultimate idyllic lifestyle of sun, sand and sea.

For Duncan though, it was all beginning to get a bit ‘samey' and he was starting to realise that after all this time, every beach looked pretty much the same; he knew that the time had come to settle down.

craigsmall_thCraig was working in Banbury when one day he finally decided that he had had enough and he needed a change.

Although his job paid reasonably well it had pretty much the same old routine every day and he was bored.

He knew he wanted to do something else he but wasn't sure what. At 24 with his whole life in front of him he wanted something that would allow him to use both his creative and practical skills.

stephenkieren_thStephen worked in IT managing a team of people. It was demanding and meticulous work but unfortunately it was the same thing day-in-day out.

Not only did it lack variety but as a ‘people person' he also wanted to meet new people instead of seeing the same old faces every day.

Above all now at the age of 27 he wanted to be his own boss. He had realised a long time ago that he would never really achieve his goals by working for someone else.

He had always been fascinated by electricity and when one day there was a power cut in the office and everything around him ground to a halt it brought home to him the vital role that electricity played in our everyday life.

matthewroberts_th

Matthew worked in Leeds in a job which required him to spend most of his time in front of a computer screen trying to make things go wrong!

He tested new software to make sure that it was fault free and ready for commercial use. In his own words he was ‘pretty bored with it'.

He was 29 and was not looking forward to even another year of this let alone a lifetime. He made up his mind to become an Electrician.

At 50 Nick had already worked for many years as an HGV driver but unfortunately he developed an illness which prevented him from working.

His time away from his usual routine gave him time to think and he came to realise that he had not been enjoying his work very much anyway!

Days and nights away from his family had taken their toll and he decided to turn his illness into something really positive.
